The Season of Sharing
The holidays are the season of giving; giving love and giving thanks. The holidays are also about helping those in need. Read below to hear about one such giving story.
We reached out to our Community Food Rescue network to see if any of our donors had extra or special donations they could post to their ChowMatch account for the holidays. Laurie Savage from Savage Acres heard our call and donated a very generous amount of protein such as brisket, ribs, etc.
This generous donation went to the Montgomery Village Spanish Seventh-Day Adventist Church for their bi-weekly food distribution. We had an opportunity to speak to a representative from this organization.
“I am writing on behalf of Montgomery Village Spanish Seventh-Day Adventist Church. We would like to express our gratitude to Savage Acres Farm for the donation. They did an amazing thing out of the kindness of their heart. It means so much that we were able to receive this donation to feed people. As a community we are very thankful to receive this food from Savage Acres Farm.” – Keiri Arias
We want to thank Savage Acres for their generous donation. Without donors like Savage Acres we would not be able to do the work we do through the Community Food Rescue program. We wanted to highlight this donor and we asked Laurie Savage about her farm.
Laurie, from Brown Cow Creamery at Savage Acres Farm grew up in Frederick County and when she married her husband, she moved to his family’s dairy farm in Montgomery County. So, they have both been farming for their entire lives! Laurie has been working with Manna since early 2021.When asked about her favorite products she stated, “We love all our cheese flavors, but we especially love our smoked cheddar. It’s great in macaroni and cheese and over potatoes either alone or mixed with our regular cheddar. We also have a really cool blue corn flour right now that’s great in cornbread or pancakes.”
Lucky for us, Laurie shared her favorite recipe of Corn Bread and we can’t wait to try it out!

Where can you go to purchase Savage Acres products? Check out the website here. They offer grass fed beef, pastured pork, free-range eggs, freshly milled flours and raw milk cheese made from the milk of their own cows. They have a small on-farm shop where folks can come by and pick up products. Cheeses can be found on the menu at Crosswinds, as well as at 61 Vineyard and Frey’s Brewery. During the market season, they are at several farmers’ markets, and they hope to build their delivery business this late fall and winter.
