County to Tackle Ending Food Insecurity

The  Montgomery County Council will hold a public hearing to discuss proposed legislation, Bill 19-16 to create a Five Year Strategic Plan to End Food Insecurity in Montgomery County.  The goal of the plan is to reduce or eliminate food insecurity in Montgomery County. The plan will address demographic and geographic information about poverty and food support in the County including Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), Women,Infants, and Children (WIC), free and reduced meals in the public schools, food access, food literacy’s role in reducing food insecurity.

Manna Food Center and other CFR partners and allies are planning to testify at the June 14th hearing .  These organizations will make the case that a multi-stakeholder approach to creating innovative strategies, coupled with sufficient public and private resources, can make food security a reality for all of our neighbors.  The public hearing will be held from 1:30-3:30pm in the Third Floor Hearing Room, 100 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, MD 20850

 Representatives from the following not-for-profit organizations will be presenting testimony :

 1.       Capital Area Food Bank

2.       Crossroads Community Food Network

3.       Jews United for Justice

4.       Manna Food Center

5.       Maryland Hunger Solutions

6.       Montgomery County Food Council

7.       Women Who Care Ministries
